Adopt-A-School Day Press Release 2

Hawaii Adopt-A-School Day

Hawaii Jaycees Takin’ It To The Streets To Help Our Schools!

Jaycees are manning the Ward & King St intersection this weekend to support Hawaii education

The Hawaii Jaycees are hitting the streets outside Blaisdell Arena this Saturday (May 15) to raise funds and awareness for the 2010 Adopt-A-School Day. Jaycees from local chapters will be waving signs and holding out fishnets from 11AM to 3PM! They’ll be joined by a great group of people from ‘Teens for Christ’. TFC participated in AASD 2009 as well, adopting August Ahrens Elementary.

What is School Adoption All About?

On Adopt-A-School Day, participating groups will come out to their respective adopted schools and put in a day’s work to serve the needs of that institution. Last year such work included:

-       Career Counseling & Workshops

-       Planting of flowers & trees and other landscaping projects

-       Delivery of school supplies collected

-       Long overdue painting of school buildings, playgrounds and parking lots

Why Adopt-A-School Day Is More Important Now Than Ever

This effort has taken on new meaning and relevance today as Hawaii schools face furlough days and budget cutbacks. The AASD purpose is to activate real, needed support for our keiki’s education, providing local schools with manpower for projects that directly benefit both teachers and students.

Last year, the Jaycees reached out to other organizations in the community in order to grow the AASD effort and reach as many schools as possible. In 2009 we had almost 40 schools adopted in all 4 counties of Hawaii. This year the goal is to get 100 Hawaii schools adopted and we’re already on our way to that magic number!

Adopt Not Just a School, But An Entire Community’s Keiki!

Participating groups will be given an ‘Official Certificate of Adoption’ to both recognize their generous spirit and to cement the bond between them and their adopted school(s). By getting involved, individuals and groups serve not just today’s Hawaii, but also its bright future, which lies in the children and teens of these great Islands.
